Nantucket Lighthouse (Brant Point)

This is a Nantucket Lighthouse (Brant Point) which is the scene of many beautiful paintings by many artists as well as myself. It's a little ACEO which is going on Ebay tonight.
It's almost hard to visualize the snow since we haven't seen any yet this year. I'm not knocking it because we saw enough last year to last us for quite a while! Today, in fact, it's a nice, sunny 50 degrees out. I think I'll get the Sunday paper and read it at the beach while sitting in the warm sun.
:) Sounds like a plan.

Happy Thanksgiving

Today Thanksgiving was at my moms. All of my siblings were there -which was unexpected and nice. Even my cousin and her family showed up later and they weren't going to come. Good thing there was enough food for everyone! Of course my mom and I are now vegetarians so we didn't eat any turkey. I have to say that neither of us even missed it! Also, I have never felt so good after a Thanksgiving meal in my life. There's really something to this vegetarian thing!

From left to right: Lukas (Odins son) Grethe, my mom, Odin, Treg, his son Dylan and wife Jean Marie.

Here's Sienna and her cousin Erik jamming with Uncle Treg- it's kind of a family tradition because almost everyone plays an instrument or sings.

After the turkey made everyone lethargic (except for me and mom), we all watched some old home movies and relaxed. While we were watching, we saw Odin when she was little and she looked almost exactly like Brielle at the same age. I mean, you almost couldn't tell them apart! Brielle said "Are you sure I'm not Auntie Odin's baby?!" I said, "After 25 1/2 hours of labor you most definitely are NOT!! "

Front: Qena and Grethe, Brielle, Sienna and Joren (Odin's oldest son) The baby was the center of attention as usual. She's like a little doll and everyone wants to play with her.

Thein, Lukas, Grethe and Frey (Odin's 3 out of 5 boys). It was great to see them all because we don't see them too often. (And yes, that's one of my paintings in the background. )

Here are my beautiful girls and their precious little cousin, Qena.
Here's Joren (19 yrs)with his precious little baby, Rockie. He's about 6 months old now. Joren is my oldest nephew. He, Brielle and Lukas were very close growing up.
This is Lukas (18yrs) with the girls.

It was so nice to have my little lamby home from college. We all had such a nice day, it was filled with love, laughter and joy. I feel so blessed to have been able to spend it with my entire family.

Cat painting

I just finished up this commission today.
It's an 8x10 of a beautiful cat named Ziggy.
Yesterday I did this little lamb because I was thinking of my own little lamby that I picked up from college today! I haven't seen her in weeks! That's the longest time I've ever been away from any of my kids. And look, I'm still alive. I'm getting better at this 'letting go' thing I guess.

On my way I stopped in Onset and took a few photo's. This is a really nice scene for painting....you may be seeing it soon in one of mine.

And here's a cute house for painting at a later date. I liked how the rocking chairs are on the front porch and of course the white picket fence. I noticed a lot of cute little gingerbread type cottages in Onset . I'll have to go back on a nice sunny day to pick up the shadows. The 'off' season is a good time of year to photograph them since no one is home. Otherwise they may think I am stalking them which is-not so good.

Covered Bridge

Just finished this commission. How can anyone resist the charm of a snowy covered bridge this time of year? We don't have any of them on the Cape (that I'm aware of) but I've seen them a lot in Vermont, along with the idyllic church steeple and quaint New England town nestled in the folds of a beautiful mountain scape.

Can you believe it's almost Thanksgiving? Brielle is coming home tomorrow (!!!) and maybe I'll get her to help me with the tree. Yes, it's fake so I don't have to worry about dry needles by Christmas. I just don't have the heart to kill a beautiful tree, but I might cut down a few sprigs just for the smell. (I know, I contradict myself a lot).
I'll post some photo's when I get the house decorated. It still doesn't feel cold enough to do it though! We're not even close to having any snow at this rate (which is good I suppose). I wonder what it's like up there in Alaska right now???

Provincetown Collage

Here's my latest Provincetown Collage 5"x7" made from antique map/print reproductions, which have been hand colored (by me of course) with acrylic paint. I really love putting all of these antique looking elements together to form a totally new piece- that still has an old world feel to it.
Side view. It's done on 1.5" thick gallery wrapped canvas. I just listed it on Ebay last night. http://stores.ebay.com/Cape-Cod-Artist

Here's a snow man painting that I just finished that's a little different. I painted it on a special kind of foam core board. (the surface is not shiny like most- it seems like it's coated with paper). Anyway, I made little indents in the soft surface to indicate a sort of quilted pattern just for the fun of it. It's a neat little piece!

Here's a fun one. Somehow, in my imagination, I can visualize this scene taking place. Only, in my mind, this feisty snowman made off with an oyster mans boat and is now taking it on a joy ride across Pleasant Bay to bring a little Charley Brown Christmas tree to his lovely snowlady. Just look at the joy and excitement on his face!!
Oh what a feeling! I hope you get the chance to feel like that today. I hope I do too!

Antique Map Coloring

Munster - Speyer - 1550 before coloring....
After coloring.
I've been hand coloring maps for a customer in Dallas this past weekend. Here is a before and after of a map/view made in 1550 (and yes, these are the actual antique printings)Munster - Landau - 1598

Here's another one. I love doing these city views. They are so interesting. You kind of get a feel for how life was in the 1500's. If you click on it, you may be able to see the little people walking down the road with their the animals, and all kinds of neat little details like that.
On another note, Sienna and I had Sunday dinner at my sisters house which is always nice. I took some photo's by her white (!) tree. It looked pretty with blue and white lights that made it glow, but you can't really see that in these photos because I had the flash on. I love this one with Max giving Sienna a kiss!
No words needed for this one.

My sis and her family. It was just an impromtu photo, as I yelled to my sister "Stop doing the dishes and come in here quick!" -but sometimes those are the best, showing how life really is in the 2000's; a bedraggled mom, a son with his newest toy, a baby in bare feet, and a well rested, refreshed dad. 3Cats in a Christmas Basket

It's funny how some of my paintings just make me laugh! Take this one for instance, that I just put on Ebay-http://stores.ebay.com/Cape-Cod-Artist It's those crazy, bug eyed kitty cats again. I just love them!

Anyway, as you can see I'm getting into the Christmas mood. I even caught myself humming along to Christmas carols in the store the other day, and feeling really excited when I saw some lights up already. My mom, of course, already put her tree(s) up before Halloween.... yes, you read that right, but I was just talking to one of my lovely customers over in the United Kingdom, and we both agreed that the time before Christmas is the most special time (not so much the actual DAY) and it should be cherished. So why not make it last as long as possible? I know it's not so easy when you live in a warm climate. I'm even having a hard time with the temps being mild, in the mid 50's! But...little by little, I feel that warm glow of Christmas starting to rise up inside me and it feels so good.

The Twisted Carrot

Look at this beautiful, twisted carrot I got yesterday! Isn't it amazing? Someone grew it organically in their garden. I just had to photograph it. (By the way, doesn't "The Twisted Carrot" sound like a great name for a ??? I don't know, something though!)
It reminded me of this sculpture I had seen earlier in the day at the Cape Cod Art Association in Barnstable. I was there dropping off 2 paintings for their small works holiday sale. You should go check it out if you're in the area, there were lots of beautiful paintings for sale. www.capecodartassoc.org

Oh look, I made my own sculpture! (yes, it doesn't take much to keep me occupied!)

Simba must have been thinking "What the heck is this? I don't do carrots. Where's the Tuna?" So I took it outside (since I don't know how I'd ever peel it) and left it for my little rabbit friend that lives under our shed.

This little ACEO is available right now on Ebay- without the carrot! http://stores.ebay.com/Cape-Cod-Artist
Have a wonderful day, and send love and light to everyone who's fighting for this country and to their loved ones. Then lets put a blanket of peace on the world.

Mermaids

Look who inspires me to create mermaids! It's interesting to see that a lot of my little mermaid paintings look like my kids. At one point, when they were little I had lots of photo's of them to work from, but now I just create out of my imagination- but they still end up looking like my kids!

And here is my little up and coming mermaid.

See these and others on Ebay now: http://stores.ebay.com/Cape-Cod-Artist
“ Love can never be acquired . It can only be distributed.” (Found this one on Twitter- I get some good quotes on there!)

More Angels

I thought I'd show you a few more angels that I just finished painting. These are some of my favorites so far...

I absolutely love this one!
It's just amazing how they form themselves.

For some reason this one reminds me of me when I was young. Maybe it's the big hair. (and in no way am I saying that I'm an angel- farrrr from it! lol)
These will all be on Ebay soon or may even be right now. http://stores.ebay.com/Cape-Cod-Artist

On another note, today the temps hovered right around 60 degrees! That's nice and warm for this time of year here on the Cape. I managed to do a little yard work and go for a walk. Look closely in this photo. Can you see the birds nest? (Click on it to enlarge)

This is at Sesuit Harbor. I was sitting across the water in the parking lot and those red pants caught my eye. Red and green, are you thinking what I'm thinking? (Christmas is coming soon)
Here's some more red and green. These are giving me ideas for Christmas cards......

Paintings With Healing Powers

This is one of my "Healing Angels" paintings. They got that name because I have infused each one with healing energies that seem to flow through me while I am painting. I know that sounds weird to the majority of people but it's just something I've been led to do and I'm trusting in the process. In fact, I talked to a psychic medium about it and he said 'I've already been doing it' -which is what I thought. Keep in mind, a healing could come in other forms other than just physical.

The interesting thing is how I create them. I use a pallet knife and make suggestions of wings and a dress wherever I'm led to. Then the fun part comes; I look at the painting and see what it tells me - like where to put the face, or if she's looking up or down or holding something, or what kind of hair do she'll have. It's like I discover the angel IN the painting. It's so exciting to see the finished product because I don't even feel like I painted it- it just 'came out of' the canvas.

I also believe that the energy in the painting can be transmitted to anyone in possession of it- in other words, you could give it to someone and they would receive the benefits too. (I think I'll send one to my daughter at college and she won't even know- kind of like sneaking vitamins into her pizza....oh wait, she reads my blog!) Hi hunny, love you!

The great thing about being a miniature painting , (2.5"x3.5") is it can be carried around in a wallet or purse or easily held in your hands.

These 2 are on Ebay right now: http://stores.ebay.com/Cape-Cod-Artist and I will be listing several others in the near future.

Books to read on the subject: 'The Reconnection" by Dr. Eric Pearl, "Matrix Energetics" by Richard Bartlett and anything by Deepak Chopra!
